do all of them do this? if so how often?
No, they do not all do this. Often it depends on the owner, how they react to a dog's behaviour. It will also depend on the dog, but not necessarily the breed.
I had a cocker spaniel and he did not pee all over himself. He was actually very intelligent. But my next door neighbours at the time had 3 cocker spaniels who were stupid as hell and probably peed all over themselves. But then, the neighbours were stupid too.

They only do that if they are poorly bred or poorly trained.

Some do. Sometimes if you yank them too roughly there eyeballs pop out. Cats however go in a litter box.

My cocker spaniel pees on me when it is surprised or excited. So does my jack russell terrier. It is so annoying!

lots of dogs do, not necessarily one type, most puppies do though

Yes. They do.
You can train most of them not to do it, though.

It's very possible. But not all of them, just some. I have a chihuahua which is also an excitable kind of dog and he did it when he got excited but he grew out of it at about 2 years old.

all breeds have some dogs that do this. they don't actually pee on themselves but pee when suprised or excited. it is called submissive urination

Yes it is true..But I think that all dogs do that..Even the big ones..I have a large mastiff/mix that does that too along with my Pomeranians..
It has nothing too do with their breeding or poor training..That is just stupid..

no not just cocker spaniels. its not a breed trait. any dog can do it. it isnt a thing of they do it all the time. sometimes they just need to be trained and sometimes they will settle down and not become so excited

I'm not sure about cocker spaniels, but I used to have a collie that every time you talked to it or it got exited it would pee everywhere. So maybe it is more of a health problem that can happen to any dog.

Many animals do especially when exited, including me!!!

I've had 3 over the last 24 years… they all did. They're an excitable breed, especially when meeting new people, or males that present themselves in a dominant manner

my cocker spaniel never does and I scare her all the time.

The one I had peed on me too when excited. I don't know if they all do, but mine sure did, especially when someone walked into the house.

No…not true. Don't believe what you always hear.

I've had Cocker Spaniels, but my experience has been that mostly female dogs, no matter what type, will do this.

ANY dog can pee when they are surprised or excited….and not ALL Cockers will….it depends on the dog.

Not all cocker spaniels do this, not even most cocker spaniels. Some do, but any breed of dog can have this problem. Any dog who is very submissive or fearful may develop this problem. It is called submissive urination.
Puppies also have this problem quite often but most of them outgrow it if the owner doesn't make a big deal about it. Yelling or punishing them will make it worse.

i have 2 dogs ( a pure breed cocker and a rat dog) and when they're young (puppies) they all pee when they get excited it's a phase. SO to anser question no it's not true unless they're puppies.

Not all of them. And not only cocker spaniels. Almost all dogs do. Some dogs are just nervous and pee themselves when they are scared, nervous or excited. I breed spaniels and i own 5 currently. Only one of them pees himself.

1. Any dog, if it is especially submissive or overly stimulated ("hey, my master's home! Yippee!") can pee on themselves.
2. But yes, cockers do have a reputation for doing this. So much so that there is a classic variation on the "how many dogs does it take to change a lightbulb" joke that involves dog breeds. And the standard answer for the cocker spaniel is: "None, I don't need any light to pee."
3. Of course not all or not even most of them do it. The majority (as least of the ones I know of–and I know a reputable cocker breeder who also competes with her dogs) of them don't. But enough of them do that this reputation sticks with them.

Yes you got that right. They are generally a nervous breed. Not all do that, bust most do. Cocker Spaniel's just love to poop and pee all over the groomers when we go to blow dry them. Cocker Spaniels are a groomers worst nightmare.

Can't begin to tell you how many Cocker Spaniels have pee'd and pooped on me.
Cocker spaniels are one of several breeds that are prone to submissive/excited urination. The triggers vary by dog, but can include any sort of fear or excitement, ie, when you come home from work, or if they think they're being punished. The females are more prone than males. Some do it several times a day, some only do it once in a great while. Good socialization and training from birth to early puppyhood can reduce the behavior.

my cockerspaniel has never done that, however my pitbull has that broblem. I believe that it has to do with the individual dog's personality. If you have a very submissive, excitable, fearful dog, chances are it will have this problem. It's not a trait for any breed to have this problem it is in the personality.

OH YES, i have one and every time she gets excited she wets, and yes she is trained very well to go outside. This is something cocker spaniels do.

Yes…they are known to be "pee-ers" but it's out of submission. But I've seen it in other breeds as well. I have owned cockers that do and don't. It's not necessarily a trait that is in poorly bred dogs, just one that are more submissive and it's sometimes linked to certain lines. I find it most common in females…I've had 2 submissive peers and they were females. Most of the time it's something they grow out of if handled correctly. If a dog tends to be this way, it's best to not make a big deal when they do it and ignore it. Eventually with maturity and training, it should stop.
