The Cocker Spaniel dog is one of the most popular breeds out there today, and that isn’t an understatement. If you like the look of Cocker Spaniel dogs and are interested in getting one for yourself, then you should really learn more about the Cocker Spaniel dogs breed and everything that they have to offer. Just as with any other breed of dog, if you are considering getting one, this is a long-term investment, and you need to care not only for the dog`s wellbeing but your own as well.

Everyone has a different type of life and lifestyle, and so you want to make sure that you are going to decide on a breed of dog that is going to be right for you and the way that you live. If you have younger children around for instance, you are not going to want to get a teeny dog like the Chihuahua because they are probably just going to end up frightened by the kids.

Or if you are a very busy person who wants to get a dog but is not going to have a ton of spare time to get them outdoors and take them for walks, then you will not want to get a very active dog such as a Jack Russell Terrier, who loves to be outdoors and simply can't stand being cooped up inside all day.

    Cocker Spaniel Dogs

There are a few characteristics in particular about the Cocker Spaniel dogs that you are going to want to learn more about. For one, Cocker Spaniel dogs are selectively bred dogs. They are very beautiful, which is one of the first things that draw people to them. If you have ever seen the movie the Lady and the Tramp, the character of lady is supposed to be a Cocker Spaniel dog.

There are actually two types of the Cocker Spaniel dogs that you can choose from, there is the field or working Cocker and the show Cocker. Basically if you want a more traditional dog then you will want the working Cocker, whereas if you want a more showy, pretty looking dog then you will want the show Cocker Spaniel dogs.

These are very dominant dogs who are extremely loyal to their owners, and they are great in families so if you have children, even some that are quite young, you will not have to worry and will know that this dog will be very adaptable and well behaved around them. This is one of the greatest characteristics of the Cocker Spaniel dogs in fact, is that they are so great around children.

Cocker Spaniel dogs are available in a variety of colors, but primarily brown and black. In terms of the different skills that Cocker Spaniel dogs have, this will depend on what you teach them of course but you should know that they are very obedient dogs and they learn extremely quickly.

Now if you start to realize that maybe the Cocker Spaniel dogs are not for you after all, there are hundreds of different breeds that you can choose from. You should never choose a dog solely based on the fact that you like what they look like because if anything, their personality is going to play more of a role here and you need to make sure that they are going to fit in with your lifestyle. Of course if you are single with no children you pretty much have the most versatility. As adults we are able to handle dogs better but you never want to get any type of dog if you think that they may end up even nipping at your kids. You want to take every precaution necessary, especially with much younger children who really do not realize just how little it can take to provoke a dog and end up getting hurt.

If you ever need help deciding on whether to get Cocker Spaniel dogs or any other type, then the best person that you can talk to is your veterinarian. They have been here many times before and are certainly going to be one of the best people that you can talk to if you ever need any information or advice on this subject.
