About a Dog Collar and Leash

If you intend on taking your dog outside, you absolutely must have a dog collar and leash. Some people who live in the country forgo both options, which is right away a mistake.

This is because no matter how trained the dog is to stay near its owner at all times, something could easily distract and it could take off running, so it is best if you have a dog collar and leash on your dog at all times.

This is not to say that a dog collar and a leash have to be restrictive in any way. True, in earlier times dogs didn’t have much freedom at all with a dog collar and leash, but now there are so many different kinds of dog collars and leashes, that issue is not a problem anymore.

If you have a small dog, you should get the dog a harness and a leash, as opposed to a dog collar and a leash. This is because small dogs have delicate throats and necks. With a harness, if they pull on it, there is less of a chance of them injuring their necks as opposed to collars.

For larger dogs, be sure that the collar that you choose is easily adjustable. The collar should ideally be tight enough so that the dog cannot catch it on anything, but also loose enough so that the dog feels comfortable at the same time.

When it comes to selecting leashes, it all really depends on how much control you want to have over your dog while walking. It also depends on the kind of dog that you have. For example, if you have a hyper dog, it is best to get have a shorter leash.

While dog leashes come in a variety of different styles and lengths, a popular leash for dog owners that want to give their dog more freedom to run are extendable dog leashes. These leashes can extend for the dogs, yet if the dog needs to be controlled, you can retract the leash.

Dog collars and leashes can be found in a variety of different places, not just pet supply stores and the internet, so take your time and choose the best one for your dog. After all, walks are supposed to be enjoyable and safe, so with the proper research you are sure to find the right dog collar and leash.
